Guru Kalaimani Smt.Uma Dandayudapani, daughter of legendary artist, the late Guru Padmashri Sri. K.N. Dandayudapani Pillai is visiting Seattle in May 2010. She will conducting workshops while in Seattle.
Workshop on Ashta Nayakis ( 4 Hours)
The emphasis of this workshop will be on the similarities and differences between 8 types of Heroines or Nayakis of Bharatanatyam. Aspects of Abhinaya, the concept of bhava and rasa, which form the basis for the Nayaki bedhams, will also be covered.

Lec-Dem on the Life and Composition of Padmashri Sri K N Dandayudapani Pillai (2 Hours)
Smt. Uma will talk about the life and journey of her father as a Nattuvanar. She will discuss his unique Jathiswaram, Varnam, and Thillana compositions including the Jathis in multiple thalams.

Journey of Bharatanatyam, the Indian Ballet: An interactive session for kids with Smt. Uma Dandayudapani (4 Hours)
Evolution of dance, role of temples in the development of dance, story of Devadasis and concept of Nataraja will be covered in this session.
