Karpagavalli (Kappu) Jaykumar has been involved with Bharatanatyam for over 30 years. She was initiated into the art in Chennai, India where she trained under the auspices of Kalaimamani Smt.Uma A. Dandayudapani, daughter of the dance maestro Padmashree Sri. K.N. Dandayudapani Pillai for more than 17 years and continues to work with her on advanced techniques and workshops. She is the recipient of the National Talent Search Scholarship awarded by the Central Govt. of India.
 
 
 
She has performed in over 70 group and solo performances all over India. She was a member of a group selected by the Govt.of India to perform at Maldives for the Bharathiyar Centenary Festival. In Seattle, she has performed at the Utsav Music and Dance Festival in Seattle Town Hall and various other performances organized by the local organizations.
 

She started Mudra school of Dance in 2005 to promote the art within the local community. Mudra school has students at various stages of the path towards Arangetram. The students of Mudra school have performed in various performances in Seattle.
